A recent supplement recall has been initiated. A total of 15 lots have been recalled due to drug contamination. The drug mixture itself is surprising to say the least.

The diet suppressant Sibutramine has been discovered in the 5 supplements listed below.  Sibutramine is a prescribed drug that shouldn’t have been added to any over the counter supplement. This particular appetite suppressant has a long line of side effects including severe side effects such as fainting, chest pain, anxiety and muscle stiffness. Aside from the normal risk associated with the Sibutramine side effects, people who unknowingly take it may have negative drug interactions caused by medication that they normally take on a daily basis.

Even more disturbing than the appetite suppressant drug Sibutramine being mixed into weight-loss supplements is the following two supplements for men. These two supplements have been crossed with Tadalafil, used to treat erectile dysfunction. Tadalafil also has a long line of side effects such as muscle pain, blurred vision, peeling of the skin and erections that last beyond 4 hours.

Considering that this recall has been specifically towards 15 lots all of which was the target of one Irwindale, California store, at first glance looks like a rather strange accidental contamination. That is until you stop to consider the fact that the appetite suppressant went into the supplements geared towards losing weight and the erectile dysfunction drug went into the supplements geared towards men. In fact both of those supplements are sold as special herb blends to increase sexual drive.

It sounds like another supplement company selling an inferior product became desperate and crossed the FDA regulated ethical lines.
